AID is accepting applications for the following job opportunity: ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM DIRECTOR Americans for Informed Democracy (AID) is looking for a dynamic, passionate individual to work in our Baltimore headquarters to promote sustainable climate change policy, environmental justice, and green jobs for young people around the world. Americans for Informed Democracy empowers young people in the United States to address global challenges such as poverty, disease, climate change, and conflict through awareness and action. AID promotes just and sustainable solutions at the campus, community, and national level. Our vision is that every American young person is empowered to effectively contribute to peaceful, healthy, just and sustainable solutions to the world's greatest challenges. This is a tremendous opportunity to work with one of the leading youth organizations in the country to ensure that global issues and young people’s voices are heard in U.S. foreign policy and on campuses. AID is hiring an environmental program director to work in a fast-paced, youth-led office to: 1) to develop decentralized environmental actions for students to participate in; 2) to empower, inspire, and equip young leaders to advocate for U.S. leadership on carbon reduction and international climate change policy, green jobs internationally, and environmental justice; 3) hold three conferences on environmental issues annually; 4) network with global climate change advocates and promote their views to U.S. policymakers and amplify the results of the AID’s work through social networking, new media, and mini-grants to AID’s chapters to replicate campaigns, run conferences, host film screenings, or other initiatives. The Environmental Program director will work with other AID program directors on organization-wide and cross-cutting initiatives and assist with other organizational efforts where appropriate. This is a full-time, paid position. AID offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including health, dental, vision, a 403B program as well as and life insurance. AID is hiring an experienced policy advocate to work in a fast-paced, youth-led office to: 1) to promote increased access for U.S. youth to engage in policy deliberations with the new presidential administration; 2) work with program directors to develop concrete strategies to engage students and advance specific community priorities on peace and security, human rights, development, health, and climate change; 3) with program directors, organize three conferences within the first 100 days of the new administration to assess progress; 4) work with program directors to reach out to youth advocates abroad and determine ways to promote their views to U.S. policymakers and amplify the results of the AID’s work through social networking, new media, and other decentralized actions. Spring 2009 Internship OpportunitiesOur Mission Americans for Informed Democracy (AID) Internship Opportunities Spring 2009 Our internships offer a hands-on introduction to the fields of global education, global development, global health, environmental sustainability, peace and security, non-profit management and arts and activism. This internship program offers students an unparalleled introduction to the diverse professional opportunities within international NGOs. Interns help lead social action campaigns, grassroots organizing, media outreach, grant-writing, fundraising, civic education, and long-term strategy development. Development Intern: The Development intern will work closely with AID’s Development Coordinator to organize campus forums, regional summits, film screenings, fundraisers, and video-conferences on global poverty, women’s empowerment, water scarcity, human rights and fair trade with campus leaders across the country. The Development intern will work with the Development Coordinator to assist campus leaders in implementing local and national development campaigns. The Development intern position is perfect for someone interested in these issues, particularly if the candidate has experience as a campus organizer and activist. The Global Health intern will work with the Global Health Coordinator to assist campus leaders in implementing local and national health campaigns working in Washington DC with AID’s health partners, and helping to partner and collaborate with other global health organizations. The Global Health interne position is perfect for someone interested in these issues, particularly if the candidate has experience as a campus organizer and activist. Contact: courtney@aidemocracy.org Environmental intern: The Environmental Sustainability intern will work closely with AID’s Environmental Sustainability Coordinator to organize campus forums, regional summits, film screenings, fundraisers and video-conferences on climate change, environmental protection, and forest protection with campus leaders across the country. The Environmental Sustainability intern will work with the Environmental Sustainability Coordinator to assist campus leaders in implementing local and national environmental campaigns on creating a carbon neutral campus and passing climate change legislation. The Environmental Sustainability position is perfect for someone interested in these issues, particularly if the candidate has experience as a campus organizer and activist. The intern will also work on a Rising Powers conference as well as other conferences and peace and security initiatives. The intern will also work to organize campus forums, regional summits, film screenings and video-conferences on these issues. Arabic language ability is very welcome. Contact: vicente@aidemocracy.org Marketing and Design/Arts and Activism Intern: The arts and design intern will spearhead AID’s publicity efforts for 2007-2008. This intern would ideally have a creative flair and a background in graphic design, video editing, film, art and/or media relations. The intern would put together poster templates for the use of AID’s campus organizers as well as brochures and publicity materials for AID’s central organization. This position would also devise creative strategies for using arts and culture to promote activism.
